2026 Auditions

Mariachi Auditions: What to Expect
An audition is an opportunity for students to show us their musical skills, willingness to learn, and passion for mariachi music. Auditions are not about being perfect—we want to get to know each student’s current abilities and determine how we can best support their musical growth.
What to Expect
Students will participate in three parts of the audition:
1. Prepare a Preselected Mariachi Piece
Students will prepare a piece of music selected by the ABQ Mariachi Project. The audition piece can be found under “Join Us” on our website. Students should practice their assigned piece and be prepared to perform it during the audition.
2. Sight Reading
Students will be given a short piece of music they have not seen before and asked to perform it. This helps us understand their ability to read and learn new music. No preparation is required for the sight-reading portion.
3. Singing Piece
Students will be asked to sing a short piece or portion of a song. This allows us to evaluate pitch, rhythm, musicality, and vocal confidence. You do not need to be an experienced singer to audition.
Come Prepared & Ready to Learn!
Bring your instrument, your prepared music, and a positive attitude. We encourage students to do their best, ask questions, and be open to learning.
Our goal is to create a welcoming environment where young musicians can grow, build confidence, and develop a deeper connection to the traditions and culture of mariachi.
